Between Deconstruction and Balance: A Speculative Reimagining for Ottolinger.

In the ever-evolving realm of fashion, where the lines between art and function are continually blurred, intuition serves as both a compass and a motor. Ottolinger, the Berlin-based fashion brand conceived by the dynamic duo Cosima Gradient and Christa Bösch, epitomizes this philosophy. In an interview stating, "Intuition is our motor. Finding all the shapes and forms is very intuitive—there’s a fine line between deconstruction and stillness in balance." With this guiding sentiment, I was inspired to reimagine one of their staple pieces, the iconic Baguette Bag, through a lens that blends the ethereal with the corporeal.

Brand Essence

In exploring Ottolinger's essence, I designed a piece that blurs the line between fashion and art, balancing sleek and organic elements with reflective and translucent surfaces. By reimagining the Baguette Bag with a futuristic, ambiguous twist, I highlight the brand’s artistic vision. The inclusion of the heel, a symbol of femininity, adds a commentary on evolving ideas of allure, femininity, and empowerment.

Design Process

Inspired by the iconic heel, a symbol of femininity, I re-imagined the bag with organic shapes that echo the form of a shoe, creating a distinctive silhouette. The sleek, futuristic aesthetic, mildly influenced by H.R. Giger, merges materials in a way that feels both familiar and otherworldly. This design challenges traditional ideas of gender, beauty, and identity, transforming the bag into a sculptural piece that evokes curiosity and desire beyond its function.
