The sublime is the most powerful emotion we can experience, embedding itself in our subconscious and drawing us back for aesthetic nourishment. Designing with the sublime in mind can extend a product's lifespan, making it 'durable' by preventing premature disposal—much like heirlooms such as wedding dresses, which symbolize sublime, once-in-a-lifetime moments.
This research explores how the sublime aesthetic can address our growing waste problem. Inspired by Kristine Harper’s Aesthetic Sustainability, it focuses on using unusual materials and challenging tactile expectations to create durable, meaningful designs. This project is both an exploration of materials and a practice in applying the sublime aesthetic philosophy.
